Adaptive design

What is design? According to‚ design is - “Part plan‚ part great idea‚ to design is to conceive‚ create‚ sketch out or invent something.”

Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. - Steve Jobs

Web design is just another form of design. It′s like painting. But instead of canvas we have a browser window to paint upon. The problem is that the size of browser window depends on the device we use. And we browse web on — smartphones‚ laptops‚ desktop‚ tablets‚ media players and many more.

Thus we have to be flexible in our approach when designing a web page. So anyone can browse the website‚ no matter which device he may be using. And this was the vision of Tim Berners-Lee when he invented the internet.

There are many fancy terms for this approach such as - Responsive web design‚ Progressive enhancement‚ and Graceful degradation. But the core idea is same. Anyone can access your website‚ regardless of the device he might be using.

This is important because 83% of the internet users carry mobile phones. Whenever they need something‚ they just search for it on their phones. Smartphones are getting cheaper and more population have access to internet now. So this trend will only continue.

How we design your website

No boring and repelling templates, only hand-crafted custom websites

Design process starts with wire framing. Wire framing is important for user experience because it helps us answer questions like:

  • How users will use your website?
  • How can we arrange information?
  • How can we help users move across pages without extra effort?

Here′s the initial mock-up that we drew for our own website:

After considering all UX challenges we move to UI development. We develop a style guide. A style guide is just a set of standards for our design process. Here′s the style guide that we prepared for the website your are on right now.

Style Guide : A2Z Web Solution

  • Trustworthy, Active, Minimal,
  • Thoughtful, Wise, Imaginative
  • Professional, Confident

Color Pallete

  • #005281
  • #4e4c08
  • #5b5b5b
  • #158acd
  • #cdc908
  • #2eba9c

Font Family

family=PT+Sans: noraml, bold;

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ abcdefghijklmnopqustuvwxyz 1234567890 (!@#$%&.,?,:)

The whole design process revolves around these sets of standards. Sticking to style guide ensures consistency, which is essential in branding. After preparing style guide, we create a photoshop mockup of the website.

Crafting a design for website includes several domains such as:

  • Visual design
  • Information architecture
  • User experience design

Visual design is using design elements such as shape‚ balance‚ texture‚ color‚ typography. Information architecture is organizing information to help users understand your products and services. User experience makes sure that users don′t have any trouble browsing your website.

The bottom line is that users shouldn′t stop to think while browsing your website. Browsing experience should be effortless and enjoyable. If the user has to stop and think‚ then we know this design is not gonna work. For big-scale websites‚ we also prepare live website prototypes for UX testing. This gives us a detailed analysis of user experience.

When the design is complete‚ we send a copy to you for review. Designers redesign elements that you want changed. When you are good with the design then our programmers start the development.

Why we don′t use web templates

A web template is a pre-coded website. Put some content with your company′s logo, and voila! Your website is ready. That′s how some web design companies make your website. Boy we ain′t one of them. Creativity

Originality demands creativity and provides longetivity. - Atul Rawat (UX Designer at OSS)

Creativity is scarce these days. It demands hard work. It has no short-cuts. But team OSS starves for originality.

Let′s take a look at problems that arise when we use templates:

  • Poor‚ out of date code and design
  • Mismatch between design and content
  • Terrible for SEO
  • A single template is used for thousands of websites
  • No control over design process and customization

What′s special about us is that we design according to content. Templates take the exact opposite approach. And that′s the reason template based websites look boring and generic.

Now you know all about the design‚ let′s move on to development.
